Tournament Ratings
The following ratings are intended to give prospective players an
idea of what the designer has in mind when presenting their scenarios,
so that they can more accurately pick and choose the games they will
enjoy playing.
- Seriousness
- The seriousness refers as much as to the form of presentation and
the mood of a scenario as it does to the content (see Adult Content).
- Totally zero seriousness.
- Not serious.
- Not completely unserious, but mostly fairly light
- Relatively serious, but may have the occasional light moment.
- This game is intended to be serious all the way through. Light
moments will probably be inappropriate.
- Totally straight and serious.
- Rules Knowledge
- The Rules knowledge rating can sometimes cover system or background
knowledge as well, or you may wish to provide these separately.
- Systemless. You might use scissors-paper-rock.
- I'm using a system, but you don't need to know it.
- I'm using a system, and it would help if you were familiar with it.
- I'm using a system and knowledge of it is important to the game.
- I'm using a system and knowledge of it is essential.
- I'm using a system and all the extra supplements.
- Characterisation
- Can the players turn up and skim the characters, or should they pick
them up at the start of the Con and read them carefully?
- The game is mostly plot driven, so if you don't get the characters it won't matter too much.
- The game is mostly plot driven, but there will be a few bits where it matters that you are in character.
- Its about 50/50 plot and character driven - without some characterisation, you probably won't get very far or enjoy this game.
- The characters are the core reason for the game.
- I am only intending to write characters.
- Adult Content
The adult content rating is intended to inform players of the
content of the game, not to screen potential players out.
- G. Suitable for anyone, any time. (eg: Free Willy)
- PG. There may be some concepts in this game not suitable for kids, but most 13-year-olds will understand it. Eg: Ghostbusters
- M. There will be a certain amount of what are termed adult
concepts - either a fair amount of violence or gobby bits, some sexual
references, drugs, etc. Anyone under 15 or Catholic Senators might
be a bit disturbed or lost. eg: Terminator
- MA. The game may involve drugs, violence, sex and other things
that seem to make censors all upset in a fairly central fasion.
Those playing should be aware that the game contains these types of
topics. eg: Pulp Fiction, Wildside
- R The author would not feel comfortable presenting their scenario
to anyone under the age of 18 - it probably touches on or involves
the various taboos of our culture. eg: Clockwork Orange
