History has not always been as we know it now.
By the time of the Nobilis, 100 years ago an entire era vanished from history. An unknown Imperator, whom no one has yet managed to identify, wiped a whole 500 years of human history and development.
It was known, at least, that humanity was poised on reaching the stars. Humanity had intrasolar colonies, space travel, and was closer than it had ever been to completely removing the shackles of their mother Earth.
And then, in one fell swoop, it all disappeared. Vanished, gone from the world, and no one, Noble or Imperial, could fathom why.
And so the Lightlords wept, and the Darklords cheered, and the Angels and Devils placed Chrysanthemums on the grave of a grand, fantastic world, gone perhaps forever more.
